Medals from the United States from the Interwar Period
American Military Medals & Awards between 1918 and 1939
During the interwar period, spanning from the end of World War I in 1918 to the beginning of World War II in 1939, the United States played a multifaceted role on the global stage.
The United States experienced significant economic growth and prosperity during the 1920s, often referred to as the “Roaring Twenties.” This period was characterized by rapid industrialization, technological advancements, and a booming stock market. However, this economic prosperity was followed by the Great Depression, triggered by the stock market crash of 1929, which had profound effects both domestically and internationally.
In the aftermath of World War I, the United States adopted a policy of isolationism, seeking to avoid entanglement in European conflicts. Despite these tendencies, though, the United States participated in international efforts to promote peace and disarmament. President Woodrow Wilson’s Fourteen Points outlined a vision for post-war diplomacy, including the establishment of the League of Nations. However, the U.S. Senate’s refusal to ratify the Treaty of Versailles and join the League limited America’s direct involvement in these initiatives.
On this page you will find all military and campaign medals, orders of knighthood, awards, and decorations of the United States given during the interwar period, between The Great War and the Second World War.
